A few shots from the White House today. The third shot is of the wonderful-smelling flowers that are in the hallway the journos have to walk through to get to the White House South Lawn. (That hallway probably has an official historic name, but I don’t know what it is.)
The jobs of the future are increasingly going to those with more than a high school degree and I have to make a point here:
When I speak about higher education we’re not just talking about a four-year degree. We’re talking about somebody going to a community college and getting trained…for that manufacturing job that now is requiring somebody walking through the door handling a million dollar piece of equipment. And they can’t go in there unless they’ve got some basic training beyond what they received in high school.
We all want Americans getting those jobs of the future. So we’re going to have to make sure that they’re getting the education that they need.

The President tours Conveyor Engineering and Manufacturing and is shown what are called “press screws.”
I defy you to find anything like a quorum, anything like even enough people to fill this room up on Capitol Hill who are elected members of Congress. You might find them in very warm places or snowy places having fundraisers. But you won’t find them in Capitol Hill because they are in recess.

This is an issue where an overwhelming number of people in both parties agree. How can we not get that done? I mean, has this place become so dysfunctional that even when people agree to things we can’t do it? It doesn’t make any sense.

Well, if I had a crystal ball, I would have predicted that Denver would go on this remarkable run after Tim Tebow started as quarterback for the Broncos, and I would have made a lot of money in Vegas.
I don’t have a crystal ball, so I don’t know what the endgame will look like, how this will all end. What is the case is that there is still time for Congress to do all of its work; both finish its business and the American people’s business in time for their scheduled vacation by the end of this week.
